VERA

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 15, 2026

Vera saves your numbers on your phone and, encrypted, in your Vera account, so they're backed up when you switch phones. When you ask a question, your question and your numbers are sent to Vera's server and to Anthropic's Claude to write the answer. Unless you turn it off, Vera keeps a copy of your question and its answer, never your numbers, for 90 days to learn what people ask and make the app better. We never sell your data or show ads, and Vera never sees your bank logins.

Who we are

Vera is a financial planning and education app made by Vera Wealth Management, Inc., a Delaware corporation in the United States ("Vera," "we," "us").

Your account

You sign in with Apple. Apple gives Vera an ID for your account; Vera doesn't ask Apple for your name or email address and never sees your Apple password. When you create an account you confirm that you're 16 or older, and we record when you did.

Your sign-in is kept in your phone's Keychain. Our server keeps a record of each sign-in (when it started and when it expires) and, so that deleting your account also ends Sign in with Apple for Vera, a token from Apple that's encrypted like the rest of your account.

What you enter

The numbers you choose to enter, such as income, balances, debts, and goals, the country you live in, your settings, and any plans you save are kept on your phone and in your account, so they're backed up and there when you sign in on another phone. Most fields are optional, and rough numbers are fine.

In your account they're encrypted with a key that belongs to your account alone, and that key is itself locked by Amazon Web Services' Key Management Service. Vera's server unlocks your data only to send it to your signed-in phone and to read your connected accounts when you open them.

Connected accounts (U.S.)

If you choose to connect a bank, card, or brokerage account, the connection goes through Plaid Inc. You log in to your bank in Plaid's screens, so Vera never sees your login. Plaid gives Vera your account names, balances, holdings, debts and their interest rates, and recent transactions. Plaid's End User Privacy Policy explains how Plaid handles your data: https://plaid.com/legal/#end-user-privacy-policy.

Vera keeps only the encrypted access Plaid issues for each connection and the name of the institution. Balances, holdings, and transactions are read from Plaid when you open Connected accounts and aren't stored by Vera, except numbers you choose to copy into your profile.

You can disconnect an account at any time, and deleting your Vera account disconnects all of them.

When you ask a question

To answer, the app sends your question, the last few messages of the conversation, and your numbers to Vera's server over an encrypted connection. The server runs Vera's calculators and sends that information to Anthropic, which provides the Claude AI model that writes the answer.

Answering doesn't store your numbers; the copy in your account is kept separately, as described above.

Anthropic processes this information as our service provider under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to use the data to train its models. See Anthropic's privacy policy at https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

You must agree before your first question is sent, and you can turn this off at any time in the Privacy tab. Without it, the rest of the app still works, but Vera can't answer questions.

Questions we keep to improve Vera

If "Help improve Vera" is on, our server keeps the text of your question and Vera's answer, along with which calculators ran, how long the answer took, the country you chose, the app version, and whether you were using the example numbers. A random ID for each chat lets us read follow-up questions in order; a new one is made for every chat, and it isn't linked to your phone or your account.

We don't keep your numbers, your name, your account, your install ID, your App Attest key, or your IP address with these records. Before anything is stored, the server replaces your first name and tries to remove identifiers such as account numbers, email addresses, and phone numbers, but please don't type them into questions.

We use these records only to understand what people ask and to make Vera's answers better. We don't sell them, use them for advertising, or use them to train AI models. Only Arnav Mukherjee can read them, and they're deleted automatically after 90 days.

"Help improve Vera" is on unless you turn it off, which you can do during setup or at any time in the Privacy tab. Turning it off stops your future questions from being kept. Because the records aren't linked to you, we can't look up yours, but if you email us the date and wording of a question, we'll delete it.

Information that protects the service

The app creates a random install ID. On iPhone it also uses Apple's App Attest to prove that requests come from a genuine copy of the app; our server keeps that key's public half so it can check later requests. These aren't linked to your account or your numbers, and we use them only to apply a daily question limit and block abuse. Your IP address is used briefly for the same purpose.

Our server also keeps basic technical logs: the time of a request, which calculators ran, how long it took, and errors. These logs don't include your questions, your numbers, or the answers.

Where your information is processed

Vera is run from the United States. Wherever you use it, your information is processed in the United States: by Vera's server, which is hosted by Fly.io; in your account, which is stored with Amazon Web Services; by Anthropic, for answers; and by Plaid, if you connect accounts.

Where the law asks for a legal basis, we keep your account and your numbers to provide the service you signed up for, we send your questions to Anthropic and connect accounts through Plaid with your consent, and we keep questions to improve Vera based on our legitimate interest in making it better, which you can opt out of at any time.

Depending on where you live (for example, the European Union, the United Kingdom, or India), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. You can see and change your numbers in the app, delete your account in the Privacy tab, and withdraw consent there at any time. For anything else, email mukherjee.arn@northeastern.edu.

What we don't do

We don't sell or share your information for advertising, track you across other apps or websites, see your bank or brokerage logins, or need your Social Security number or other government ID.

Vera's server tries to remove common identifiers, such as Social Security and account numbers, before a question is sent to Anthropic, but please don't enter them.

Keeping and deleting your information

Your account, saved numbers, plans, and connections are kept until you delete your account. Signing out removes them from your phone and keeps them in your account. A sign-in expires after a year, or when you sign out.

"Delete my account" in the Privacy tab deletes your account, your saved numbers and plans, and your connected accounts from Vera's servers, erases them from your phone, and ends Sign in with Apple for Vera. Copies in our encrypted backups are gone within 35 days.

Turning off "Help improve Vera" stops new questions from being kept. Kept questions are deleted after 90 days, or sooner if you ask.

Children

Vera is for people 16 and older and isn't directed to children. If we learn that someone younger has an account, we'll delete it.

Security

Information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). What's saved in your account is encrypted with your account's own key, and every use of the master key that protects it is logged. On your phone, Vera's data is protected by your device's security, such as your passcode.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and we'll ask again before sending your information anywhere new.
